Electricity projects spark learning

Fourth-graders at Yacolt Primary designed original electricity projects in October to demonstrate their understanding of circuitry. The projects were part of a larger science unit on energy. Creations included a light-up laundry room using a recycled plastic jug, a parking lot with mini-cars, a motorized amusement park ride and a lit-up air traffic control tower complete with an airplane.

Each student also was asked to present their project to students and staff as they paraded down the hallways during a “museum walk.” Special guests included Superintendent Shelly Whitten, Assistant Superintendent Lynnell Tsugawa-Murray and Director of Instructional Leadership Michael Michaud. Students were so excited to share their projects! They discussed how their projects were created, as well as explained the source, receiver, switch and path. In addition to learning about electricity, students gained public speaking experience, confidence and skills in providing feedback to one another.

Way to go, fourth-graders!
